Biography

The Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe was established by Mrs. Chin-Siu Lee Choi in 1988 with the encouragement of the Chinese-American community, since then it has flourished under the direction of Mrs. Choi and her two daughters, Stella and Amy. Mrs. Chin-Siu Lee Choi has received numerous awards, including the Formosa Prize for artistic direction, the 2004 Flying Phoenix Award, highest honor awarded by The National Dance Association of Republic of China-Taiwan, and the 2008 Rockville Arts Award, and Stella is a 2008 Metro DC Dance Award nominee for Emerging Choreographer. FCDT placed 1st and 2nd places in the solo and group categories at the 2004 New England Chinese Dance Competition, was a 2006 Finalist and 2007 & 2008 Nominee for Metro DC Dance Awards in Outstanding Youth Performance.

Members of the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe have developed a diverse circle of audiences, dazzling audiences locally and abroad.  International performance tours include Taiwan, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, and in 2012, senior performing members performed in the 2012 London New Year's Day Parade & Festival: the first official event to mark the Diamond Jubilee of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and kicked off the very first event in London's spectacular Olympic year.

Other notable performances include The National Theater, International Children's Festival at Wolf Trap, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage & Terrace Theater, Smithsonian Institution, Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Smithsonian National Zoo, National Cherry Blossom Festival, Capitol Hill, Kimmel Center, World Dance Showcase, US 14th Air Force Flying Tigers Reunion, National Asian Heritage Festival, National Independence Day Parades, National Cherry Blossom Parades, and Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Annually,they perform in various arts and cultural festivals throughout the region, such as Lunar New Year celebrations, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the DC Dance Festival, Fiesta Asia, and the Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Festival.

The Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe also participates in charitable events in support of American Heart Association, Red Cross, National Race for the Cure, churches, nursing homes, senior centers, and schools throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
